NUI Galway makes history with their Diabetes drone delivery to the Aran Islands

Earlier this year our neighbours NUI Galway made aviation history by completing the worlds first Diabetes drone mission from Irish mainland to Aran Islands. This is the worlds first autonomous beyond visual line of sight, vertical take-off with landing drone delivery that contained diabetes prescription medications. Alongside this, the drone collected a patient blood sample between Connemara airport and Inish Mór on the Aran Islands.
This #DiabetesDrone project ran in partnership with numerous industry experts and multiple stakeholders such as Vodafone Ireland, Survey Drone Ireland, Wingcopeter, Skytango, and Novo Nordick, a global healthcare company.

So what was the drone? The drone which was supplied by Survey Drones Ireland was a 178 Heavy lift Wingcopter drone. It contained an insulated parcel delivery box for the payload. This drone reaches distances up to 100 Km in less than an hour.
